Privacy policy

1. Our commitment
MEKA AVOCAT INC. (“the firm”, “we”) attaches great importance to the protection of personal information. This policy describes the information we collect through this site, how we use it and the rights available to you, in accordance with the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25.
It supplements, without replacing, lawyer’s professional secrecy, which protects information entrusted to the firm within a mandate.
2. Person in charge of the protection of personal information
The person in charge of the protection of personal information is Me Abdelkrim Kebache. Any question or request may be addressed to him at info@mekaavocat.ca or by mail at 204 Notre-Dame Street West, Suite 300, Montréal, Quebec H2Y 1T3.
3. Information we collect
a) Information you send us: name, email, telephone, company, the nature of your request and the content of your message, when you complete a form, book a consultation or settle an amount online.
b) Payment information: payment is processed by a specialized external provider. We never have access to your full card number and store none of that data. We receive only the transaction confirmation, its amount and its reference.
c) Browsing information: pages viewed, referral source, device type, in aggregate form, where you consent to audience measurement.
d) File information: the documents and information you entrust to us once a mandate is open.
4. Purposes
We use this information to answer your request, verify the absence of a conflict of interest, schedule and hold a consultation, process a payment and issue its receipt, carry out a mandate, meet our professional, accounting and tax obligations, and improve the site.
We neither sell nor rent your information. We do not use it for commercial prospecting without your consent.
5. Consent
By sending us your information, you consent to its use for the purposes described. You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to information the firm must retain under its professional or legal obligations.
6. Automated tools and artificial intelligence
The firm may make available on the site automated orientation tools, a conversational assistant, a qualification form, an estimation tool or a comparable device, whether or not relying on artificial intelligence techniques. This article applies to any such tool from the moment it goes live.
Exchanges with such a tool may be processed by third-party technology providers, including outside Quebec. We recommend that you do not submit sensitive personal information or confidential documents through them.
Those exchanges are not communications protected by lawyer’s professional secrecy, which applies only from the opening of a mandate.
No decision producing legal effects concerning you is taken solely on the basis of automated processing. Legal work is performed by a lawyer.
7. Disclosure to third parties
We disclose information only where necessary: to our technical providers (hosting, email delivery, payment processing, audience measurement), to professional collaborators involved in your file with your agreement, and where the law or a court requires it. Our providers are bound to confidentiality and may not use the information for other purposes.
8. Hosting and transfer outside Quebec
The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. and certain providers may process your information outside Quebec, in particular in the United States. Before communicating personal information outside Quebec, the firm carries out the assessment required by law and takes reasonable measures so that it receives adequate protection.
9. Retention and security
Your information is retained for as long as necessary for the purposes described and for the periods imposed by the professional obligations applicable to lawyers’ files. It is then securely destroyed or anonymized.
We apply reasonable security measures: encrypted transmission of exchanges with the site, restricted access to files, and the use of recognized providers. No system is infallible, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your rights
Within the limits set by law, you have a right of access to your personal information, a right of rectification, the right to withdraw your consent and the right to portability of computerized information you have provided to us. Address your request to the person named in article 2; we respond within thirty days.
11. Confidentiality incident
In the event of a confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious injury, the firm notifies the persons concerned and the Commission d’accès à l’information, and keeps the register required by law.
12. Cookies and audience measurement
The use of cookies is described in our cookie policy. You may change your choice at any time through the “Manage cookies” link at the bottom of every page.
13. Complaints
Any complaint about the handling of your personal information may be addressed to the person named in article 2. You may also contact the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
14. Changes
This policy may be amended. The version in force is the one published on this page, with its update date shown above.
